Yr 7 NFER Tests
Published under School News Thursday 09 September, 2010
Dear New Parent/Carer
As part of the process to ensure that your son/daughter has the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential at Thornton Grammar School and to ensure that all students have been allocated to the correct band, each pupil will undergo a series of NFER ability tests during their second week in school.
These tests should not cause any concern to pupils or parents as there will be practice questions in order that pupils can get used to the type of question they will meet and the method of testing. The results of the tests will form only part of the information that will be used to assess the ability and potential of each pupil so that we can continue to provide the best possible educational experience and continue to raise standards.
If you have any questions regarding this or any other assessment/examination issues do not hesitate to contact me or
Mrs Sarah Holden, Examinations Officer.
More information is available on the Yr 7 Information page

Extra Curricular Activities
Published under Announcements Thursday 09 September, 2010
Sporting and Recreational Activities
We run a full range of extra-curricular sporting and recreational clubs each day. We advertise these clubs on the PE Corridor on A Floor and within the Recreation Centre. In September we will publish a list of clubs available on the web site. We have an "open door" policy and encourage studnets to just turn up and give things a go. Clubs finish at around 4.00pm with the sweeper bus departing at 4.15pm (details of the route are in the New Pupil Handbook). If playing representative sport fixtures tend to finish later than 4.15pm, it could be as late as 6.00pm. If your son/daughter is selected to represent the school then they will be informed of the times and dates in advance so arrangements can be made for collection from school. All clubs are free apart from the junior membership of the fitness suite. Details of junior membership can be found at the recreation centre.
